Sprint Starts

 

Description

  • Three command start
    • "On your marks"
      • Move forward and enter blocks
      •  Assume proper position in blocks
      •  Hands
        • Shoulder width apart
        • Fingers bridged  just behind the starting line
      • Feet In contact with the starting blocks
      • Knee of rear leg in contact with the track
    •  "Set"
      • Raise knee of rear leg off the ground
      • Elevate hips
      • Shift the center of gravity up and forward
    • "The Gun"
      • Lift hands from the track
      • SSwing arms vigorously
      • Drive with both legs from blocks into running strides. /li>

Objectives

  • Facilitate an efficient displacement in the direction of the run
  • SStart with body sloping for acceleration
  • Emphasis on
    • Moving from start line as quickly as possible
    • Moving into position to develop race pace in shortest distance
  • Leave the blocks balanced and with maximum velocity
  • Take balanced position in the blocks /li>
  • Body position with center of gravity high and slightly forward
  • Optimum knee joint angles for both legs
  • Apply force against the blocks
    •  In a line through ankle, knee and hip joints, and the center of the trunk and head
    • Apply this force at approximately 45 degree angle.
