Richwoods Women's Track & Field Coaches
Shad Hickman serves as
the Richwoods Women's Throwing Events Coach which he
first undertook upon joining the staff in 2002 as a
He served as Head Coach from 2009 through
2015 prior to returning to his preferred position
involving the throwing events.
Long recognized as one of the premier throws coaches
in the area, his throwers have produced a
number of State Medals including a State
A graduate of Richwoods, he
competed as a thrower and in football and was a
member of the 1988 Richwoods 5A State Championship
Football team. Coach Hickman competed in
both at Monmouth College prior to completing his
degree in Mathematics at Northern Illinois
University. He currently teaches Mathematics at

Mr. Jacobi is also the Head Coachof Both the Richwoods Boys
and Girls Cross Country programs.
Mr. Jacobi is a graduate of Palatine Fremd High
School and the University of Illinois where he was a
member of the Cross Country team and the University
of Illinois Track Club. He also served in a
leadership role with the Club.
Mr. Jacobi additionally serves as the Bands and
Orchestra Director at Richwoods and teaches in the
Music and Mathematics fields.
DesJardins returned to the Knights' Women's
Track & Field Team staff in 2015.
She is a former team captain of the Knights and is
well situated in many of RHS All Time Best
Performances. She was also a captain of the 2009
Richwoods State Championship Basketball Team.
Coach DJ serves in the sprint, relay and horizontal
jump event areas during track season. She is also
the Richwoods Freshmen Women's Basketball Head
The 2009 graduate of Richwoods went on to compete at
the college level in basketball and track at Iowa
Ms. DesJardins currently serves as a Physical
Education teacher in the Peoria area..
|Joe Maier served as
the Head Coach of the Richwoods Women's Track
program from 1976 through 2005 during which time he
compiled a dual meet record of 202 - 50 which
included an 8 year winning streak from 1998 to 2005.
His teams also won 8 Conference and 9 Sectional
His athletes took home 46 State Meet Medals.
Following his retirement as a Richwoods English
teacher and Head Coach, he rejoined the team as a
volunteer assistant. He
currently provides expertise in the
specialty areas. A masterful meet tactician, he
provides significant insight into the
organization and preparation of meet lineups.
Mr. Maier has served
several years as a volunteer official at the IHSA
Girls' Track & Field State Championships acting as
the Head Throwing Event Implement Inspector.
Mr. Maier is a graduate of Richwoods and the
University of Illinois, where he attended as a
basketball scholarship athlete.
His wife Carol, a retired Richwoods English
teacher,.is also an Illinois graduate
honored for her involvement as a swimmer in the
early days of women in
intercollegiate athletics via Title IX.
Metzler joined the Richwoods Women's Track
& Field staff in 2016 as a volunteer assistant.
Ms.Metzler competed in both the 100 and 300 meter hurdle events in
high school and previously coached at Pontiac High
She serves primarily in the hurdles, sprints and relays areas
Ms. Metzler is a graduate of Illinois
State University and teaches at Richwoods in the
|Mark Rose is a
volunteer assistant coach with Richwoods Women's
Track joining the staff in 1991.
He has previously performed as the distance coach
and the throws coach. He currently is involved with
the hurdles, starts, relays and high jump, and the
overall training plans for the team.
The holder of certifications from NFICA (National
Federation - Interscholastic Coaches Assoc.) and
ACEP (American Coaches Effectivenss Program), he is
also a member of the Illinois Track and Cross
Country Coaches Association and served on the
officiating staff at the IHSA Girls State
Championships for several years as the Head Finish
He previously was head coach of a youth track and
cross country program that produced several
medalists in AAU and USATF State, Regional and
National Championship competitions.
Mr. Rose is a graduate of Peoria Spalding High
School (now Notre Dame), Purdue University and St.
Louis University School of Law. He currently
pracitices law in Peoria.
