The Richwoods Women's Track & Field Team began a long tradition of quality in its initial season of 1975 when the Knights were 6-1 in dual meets and were the District (now Sectional) Champions. Over their history the Knights have amassed a 237-57 record in their 38 year history through 2011, including a win streak of 57 consecutive dual meets over a period of 8 seasons (1998-2005). The program has produced 12 team conference championships, 10 sectional team championships, numerous individual conference and sectional champions and medalists and 38 state medal events including 8 top three individual event finishes - 3 third places, 3 second places  and 2 state champions.

The program has benfitted greatly from its history of stability. In its 38 year existence, the Richwoods Women's Track Team has had only 4 head coaches - Cheryl Nelson (1975) whose record was 6-1, Joe Maier (1976-2005) winning 202 out of 252 meets, Rich Thole (2006-2008) whose record was unblemished at 19-0, and current head coach Shad Hickman whose 3 year record is 10-6.
