DyeStat Illinois 2016 Season Previews
February 19, 2016
Track and Field information amalgamator service DyeStat has published its previews for the upcoming 2016 season. According to its assessment the Cahokia Girls Track & Field team will be favored in its search for a third straight state championship this spring, with expected challengers to include Brooks College Prep, Springfield Southeast, and Peoria Notre Dame to be the closest teams to Cahokia with other possibles in Dunlap and Maple Park Kaneland.
In its events previews DyeStat lists Richwoods Soph Tiarra Smith as a contender in the 100 High Hurdles noting
Raynesha Lewis (Cahokia HS) had the lead most of the way
in the state finals before Imani Carothers (Brooks College Prep,
Chicago) came back taking the lead over the ninth hurdle for the
win. Both athletes are back making this event a must watch this May.
Carothers dropped her time down four tenths of a second after the
state meet running 14.07 in the USATF JO’s in July. The sophomore
could be tough to beat this spring.
Five all-state athletes are back in this event to challenge Carothers and Lewis. The biggest challenger to these athletes should be Grace Cronin (Fenwick HS, Oak Park). Fenwick has hopped back and forth between 2A & 3A the last three years. Cronin has been all-state in both hurdle events each of the last two years. Her 14.42 seasonal best puts her in line to challenge for the state championship. Tiarra Smith(Richwoods HS, Peoria) is the only other 2A athlete to run under 15 seconds last year. Watch for her to be in the mix up front.
The service also notes Smith to be among the top returnees in the High Jump.
