Thomas Starts Fast In Fresh Season

Former '08 Knight Captain Among National Leaders In 3 Events

As the NCAA Division III Women's Track and Field National Championships approach former Knight Shavantay Thomas is having a breakout Freshman season running as a member of D-III power Illinois Wesleyan University. Thomas is listed among the national leaders in 3 sprint events. As of 2-19-09 she is 4th in the 300m dash at :42.54, 6th in the 200m dash at :25.63 and tied for 12th in the 55m dash with her 7.25 clocking.

Thomas was a 2008 Richwoods Captain who won the Knights Adrienne Moos Award for her accomplishments and dedication. She was a State Qualifier in three events for the Knights in '08, the 100m dash, 4x100 and 4x400. Following her season, she was invited to participate in the prestigious Senior Spotlight Meet with the leading senior track and field athletes from Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin and South Dakota, running :25.00 in the 200m dash.

Thomas appears to have a very realistic chance to qualify to compete in the NCAA Indoor National Championships which are scheduled to be conducted in Terre Haute, Indiana's Rose-Hulman Institute from March 12 through March 14.
