Knights In Runaway Over Peoria High

138-7

Richwoods used its overall depth in running away from Peoria High 138-7. Despite warm temperatures the weather was the Knights primary foe, as well as their best friend. The meet hosted by the Lions at Peoria Stadium saw extremely windy conditions with gusts in the 35 mph range. As a result many performances suffered while some became stellar.

Taking advantage of the conditions, Richwoods' sprinters DaShay Johnson and Shavantay Thomas set identical season and personal bests of :12.0 in the 100m dash which saw Johnson barely hold off a closing Thomas at the finish. Thomas won the 200m at a season best :26.8 while the 4x200 Relay saw Johnson as simply overwhelming with a split of :25.4 in her opening leg on the way to a team season best of 1:49.2.

On the day before the meet, Freshman Mariah Smith was convinced to give a try at the High Jump and looked to be a natural with her initial efforts. Her first competition in the event saw her clear 4' 6" missing 2nd place on misses. She then finished the day setting personal bests in both the discus and shotput with throws of 95' 3" and 32' 2".
