Knights 2nd at Galesburg Invitational Hosts Edge RHS 105 - 104 For Title
The Richwoods Women's Track and Field team needed to finish ahead of host Galesburg in the final event of the evening in order to win the meet. Unfortunately, the Knights were unable to meet the challenge as their 4x400 finished 2nd to the Silver Streaks allowing the hosts to claim the team title by one point 105-104. The Knights performed well in the event running 4:16.3 despite having had to unexpectedly substitute Sravanthi Vegunta and Jenisha Brittine as their number 2 and 3 legs of the relay due to injuries to Cryshawn Johnson and Ja'Bree Mitchell. It appeared that the young Knights have yet to fully develop the killer instinct necessary to seal the victory against strong teams such as Galesburg. Despite being hampered by nagging minor injuries, the evening allowed Senior Donielle Ross to continue to show case her talents with wins in the Triple Jump (35' 10"), the 400 Meter Dash (:60.0), and the 4 x 100 Relay (:50.7) as well as anchoring the 4 x 400. Junior Danielle DesJardins had a strong outing setting a career best in the Long Jump (15' 9") as well as providing her usual yeoman work in the 3 sprint relays. Junior distance runner Rebecca Hanna cut over 40 seconds from her previous best 3200 running 12:46.3 for the event. Freshman sprinter Ja'Bree Mitchell was clocked at :62.5 while running away from the competition in her "slow heat" of the 400 to claim 3rd place in the event overall.
