Captains Lead Team Into New Season

Experience will be one of the hallmarks of the 2008 Richwoods Women's Track & Field Team. The 44 members of the team include 29 upperclassmen - 10 seniors and 19 juniors. The underclass ranks include 8 sophomores and 7 freshmen. The Knights will return 12 members who attained All-Conference recognition during the 2007 season in a combined 14 events.

Named by Head Coach Rich Thole to lead the two-time defending Mid-State 6 Conference champions will be four team captains - seniors Shavantay Thomas, Katie Grinstead and Sravanthi Vegunta are joined by junior Danielle DesJardins. Each of the captains has been a multi-year All-Conference performer. Thomas achieved the recognition in both the 2006 and 2007 seasons in 4 events - the 100m, 200m, 4x100 relay and 4x200 relay; Grinstead in the 3200m in the 2005 and 2007 seasons; Vegunta in the 800m in 2007, the 4x400 relay in 2005, and the 4x800 in both 2005 and 2007; while DedJardins attained her statuse in the Meldey relay in 2006, the 4x200 and 4x400 relays in 2007, and the 4x100 relay in both 2006 and 2007.
