Former Knights Adversary Sets World Record

Brittany Riley Sets Mark in Weight Throw

Southern Illinois University throwing star Brittany Riley (left) broke the World Record in the Weight Throw this weekend at Indiana University's Gladstein Invitational (complete results). Riley threw the 20 pound weight 24.57m (80' 7.50") to break the former world mark of 24.23m set by Erin Gilreath on February 18, 2005 at the same venue.

The Saluki Junior is a two-time All-American, placing fifth in the weight throw at the NCAA Indoor Championships and fourth in the hammer at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in 2006. She also qualified for the USA Junior Nationals in the hammer, where she won the event, which qualified her for Team USA at the Pan-American Junior Championships. She was the silver medalist at Junior Pan-Ams in 2005.

As a prep from Homewood-Flossmoor High School Riley was a regular competitor against the Knights, appearing annually at the Rock Island Invitational.
