Notre Dame and Richwoods split a pair of close
battles for season bragging rights in the Mid-State 6 Conference all-sports
race, with ND winning the boys overall title and Richwoods taking the girls
crown.
On the girls side, Richwoods parlayed three
titles, one tie for first and three seconds into 3,450 points - 200 more than
second-place Notre Dame. The victory by the women Knights allowed them to claim
their 2nd straight All-Sports Trophy. The Knights are far and away the overall
leader in receipt of the Trophy, this year marking their 21st Trophy during its
29 year history.
Richwoods tied Notre Dame for the tennis title
and won championships in volleyball, softball and track and field. Notre Dame
earned league crowns in cross country, swimming and diving and soccer. Woodruff
was third (2,000), followed by Central (1,550) (sic) and Manual (1,350). Central won
the girls basketball title.
Teams are given 100 points for each place in
the league standings, with a maximum of 500 points for championships if all five
schools compete in a sport.
Thanks to championships in four sports and a
tie for another title, Notre Dame edged Richwoods by100 points for the 2006-2007
M-S 6 boys all-sports trophy.
The Irish tied Richwoods for the title in golf
and won outright championships in cross country, soccer, swimming and diving and
baseball to amass 4,250 points. Richwoods finished with 4,150 points after
claiming league honors in football, basketball and tennis.
Third-place Woodruff was the only other school
to claim top honors in a conference sport. The Warriors, who won wrestling and
track and field, finished with 3,100 points. Central was fourth (2,200) and
Manual fifth (1,100).
