Former Knight Delaina Martin Continues to Excel

Former Richwoods Women's Track & Field Team Captain Delaina Martin has continued to excel in her collegiate athletic career at Washington University in St. Louis. The senior thrower provided the highlight for Wash U in the 2007 NCAA Indoor Championships, notching an All-America performance in the weight throw with a 57' 9" effort producing a third place finish. Earlier in the month, Martin claimed her third consecutive University Athletic Association Conference indoor 20 Pound Weight Throw while placing third in the shotput.

Martin had achieved an automatic qualifying distance to compete in the NCAA Indoor Championships in the Weight Throw. The starting lists for the Division III NCAA Indoor Championships had showed Martin's qualifying mark of 58' 10.25" as the second seed in the weight throw. Click to access the complete D-III women's list.

Martin, a Division III NCAA All-American, who held both the Richwoods women's weight records prior to Jewel Sanders, now holds each of the Washington University school records in the heavy weights. She has recorded indoor school records of 57' 5.75" in the 20 Pound Weight Throw and 40' 7" in the Shotput, along with outdoor records of 162' 4" in the Hammer Throw and 42' 8.75" in the Shotput.

March 9, 2007 – Senior Delaina Martin provided the highlight for Washington U's Red and Green in the 2007 NCAA Indoor Championships, notching an All-America performance in the weight throw.

Martin took third place in the event. She posted a throw of 17.14 meters (56-2 3/4) to take second in her flight in the opening round. In the final, Martin, who finished fourth in the same event at the 2006 NCAA Indoors, recorded a mark of 17.60m (57-9) for third place. Terri Schwamb of University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh won the national title with a throw of 18.66m (61-2 3/4).

weight_uaa_indoor.gif (55897 bytes)WALTHAM, Mass. – The Washington University track and field teams successfully defended their titles for the third consecutive year at the 2007 University Athletic Association Conference Indoor Track and Field championships at Brandeis University. On the women's side, the Bears narrowly defeated rival Chicago, 130-126.5 while on the men's side, WashU defeated second-place Emory more comfortably, 113-90.5.

In the women's meet, Wash U. Bear senior Dalaina Martin defended her title in the 20-pound weight throw for the third year in a row. She also place third in the shotput.

shot_uaa_indoor.gif (188732 bytes)Jacksonville, Ill.,  – Washington University in St. Louis' men's and women's track and field teams turned in an impressive performance Friday at the Illinois College Last Chance Meet in Jacksonville, Ill. The women won the meet while the men placed second.

Senior Delaina Martin turned in a lifetime-best performance in the weight throw to highlight the day. Martin recorded a winning throw of 17.54 meters (57-6 ½), which also improved on her NCAA automatic qualifying mark from a week ago. In addition, she won the shot put with an NCAA provisional and school-record mark of 13.01m (42-8 ¼).

Bloomington, Ind., – Washington University in St. Louis' men's and women's track and field teams turned in an impressive performance Friday at the Hoosier Hills Invitational in Bloomington, Ind. The meet featured NCAA Division I, II and III teams, as well as NAIA squads.

Senior Delaina Martin provided one of WU's many highlights with the Bears' only win of the day. Martin took first place in the weight throw, posting an NCAA-automatic qualifying throw of 17.17 meters. She added a teams-season-best performance in the shot put with a mark of 12.21m.

Bloomington, Ill., – Washington University in St. Louis' men's and women's track and field teams turned in an impressive performance at the Titan Open on Saturday in Bloomington, Ill. The women cleared three NCAA Championships provisional qualifying standards on the day en route to a second-place finish out of 13 teams.

Senior Delaina Martin achieved an NCAA provisional mark in the weight throw (15.49m).

Terre Haute, Ind., – Washington University in St. Louis' men's and women's track and field teams opened up the 2007 indoor season Saturday at the Rose-Hulman Five-Team Meet in Terre Haute, Ind. The Bears women won the meet, while the men took third place at the site of this year's NCAA Indoor Championships (March 9-10).

Among notable women's performances, senior Delaina Martin just missed an NCAA provisional mark in the weight throw, recording a throw of 14.78m (48-6).
