The Richwoods qualifiers traveled to Eastern Illinois University to compete in the IHSA State Women's Track and Field Championships in Charleston. The Knights appeared poised and ready to compete...but unfortunately for RHS so were a number of other teams. as a result despite quality efforts by the Knights in the 3 qualifying relays, Jewel Sanders was the only Knight to able to provide the numbers to allow her to compete in the Saturday Finals.

Sanders threw 135' 10" in qualifying 5th overall in the Discus. The distance stood and Sanders was able to claim 8th place and the Knights only State medal in the competition with the new Richwoods record.

The three qualifying Richwoods relays performed well to no avail. The Knights times were well within what was expected to allow advancement to Saturday's Finals...but the expectations proved wrong. The Medley, run by Jessica Smith, Biannca Ward, Alisha Smith and Stephanie Lovingood, broke the 1:50 barrier for the first time this season at 1:49.5 in its preliminary with Lovingood authoring a :58.7 quarter. The clocking left the Knights out of Saturday's competition in 12th place. The 4x200 of Laura Unes, Ashley Gordon, Alisha Smith and Lovingood scampered to a 1:45.3 - which included another top quality anchor leg by Stephanie Lovingood of :24.7- and ended the competition with the 15th spot. The 4x100 made up of the Smiths, Ward and Gordon produced another sub-50 second performance turning in a :49.3 clocking to finish 17th overall.

In the individual running events, each of the Knights competitors had basically conceded their events prior to competing in order to concentrate on the success of the relays. Alisha Smith and Stephanie Lovingood scratched from competition in the open 200 and 400 respectively. Smith competed in the 100 and could only produce a 3rd place in her heat with a :12.98 into a strong wind with an overall finish of 16th place. Ashley Gordon went :27.83 in the 200 for 32nd position with the same difficult weather conditions prevalent. Sanders also competed in the Shot Put and posted a presentable 33'  11¼" in Friday's preliminary flight finishing 31st overall.

Knights' performances which either moved onto or into a higher position on the all-time Richwoods performance lists were:

Jewel Sanders 1st Discus 135'  10"
Unes, Gordon, A. Smith, Lovingood 4th 4x200 1:45.3
J. Smith, Ward, A. Smith, Lovingood 5th Medley 1:49.5
