Knights Run at PJS Honor Roll
The Richwoods women returned to local competition at the 25th annual Journal Star Honor Roll meet. The current Knights were joined by several members of previous teams during the evening including Adrienne Moos, Morgan Brubaker, Elishia Davis, Shernika Cagle, Darnita Martin and Meghan Little.
Despite showing some signs of fatigue from the competitive season the Knights produced quality performances and claim a number of medals.
Led by a school record in the 4 x 100 the three sprint relays each provided a season's best performance. The quartet of Barbara Hale, Laura Unes, Ashley Gordon and Alisha Smith broke the Richwoods' record with their :48.95 clocking (officially listed at :49.0) in winning the 4 x 100. They also ran a season's best 1:44.70 placing second to Galesburg's 1:44.68 in one of the closest race of the day. Hale, Unes and Gordon were joined by Deja Davis in the medley and clicked off the Knights season's best of 1:54.02 to claim the 5th place medallions.
Delaina Martin came back from a lackluster 101' 5" in the discus to surge to the shot put title with a throw of 38' 3". Barbara Hale was near her peak with her 2nd place leap in the long jump of 16' 7¾".
Ashley Gordon was edged from a medal in the 200 meter with the closest call of the evening. In the contested finish Notre Dame's Megan Hamilton was awarded 5th in :26.64 to Ashley's :26.65. Alisha Smith was 4th at :26.45 and 3rd in the 100 with a :12.28.
