Records Fall as Knights Defeat Notre Dame

Shot Put and 100 Meter Dash Records Fall

Richwoods 91 ND 59

Two Richwoods records fell as the Knights produced a 91 - 59 dual meet victory over a strong and focused Notre Dame team. In the  shot put, Delaina Martin clearly became the Knights all time throws champion as she set the school shot put record in each of three consecutive throws thereby allowing her to add the shot record to her existing discus record. Following her two 38' + throws with an all time RHS mark of 39' 5", Delaina surpassed the previous mark held by Almetta Pitts of 37' 8" by nearly 2'. Martin also claimed the Discus with a 104' 0" throw.

Not to be outdone in the field events the tracksters produced their  own record. In the 100 meter dash Alisha Smith's :11.8 reduced the record previously held by Mary Unes and Melodie Turner. Smith bested ND's Megan Hamilton in the event, who ran a very strong :12.3.

Smith and Barbara Hale were again 4 event winners. Smith adding the open 200 (:27.1) to her record setting 100, and Hale the Long Jump (15' 7") and the Triple Jump (29' 9"), with the duo combining with Laura Unes and Ashley Gordon to take the 4x100 Relay (:50.3) and 4x200 (1:48.4).

Jamie Powers again proved her consistency and dependability as  she claimed 2d in both the Shot Put (30' 0") and Discus (84' 3").

Moriah Johnson provided needed points in the distances taking 1st in the 3200 (13:33.0) and 2nd in the 1600 (6:17.2).

The  win allowed the Knights to end the dual meet season with their record unscathed,  and to maintain their current 44 meet win streak intact. The streak reaches back 6 years to the last loss - the opening meet of the 1998 season to IVC.
