Knights Captain Receives Civic Award

Delaina Martin, one of the Captains and a mainstay of the Richwoods High School  Women's Track & Field Team was among five area residents  honored during a Martin Luther King Day award presentation.

The King Holiday Committee of Peoria, Inc., a group of Peoria religious and community leaders, annually presents the awards  to individuals who exemplify the characteristics of Dr. Martin Luther King.

Delaina, a senior, received the Excellence & Community Service Award as a result of her maintenance of high grades while volunteering to perform many hours of civic service in the community.

Additional Awards were given to Charlie Burke for his years of service to area youth and community organizations, to Judge Albert Purham Jr. for his professional leadership and community service, to Sam Petty, for helping area youth develop character and talent and for being a positive role model, and to Jimmie Moore, principal of an alternative high school for youth who have dropped out of traditional high school, for his commitment and achievements to youth development and advocacy.

Congratulations to all.
