2003 RHS Awards Announced
Senior Barbara Hale and Junior Alisha Smith were named as
2003 Co-Most Valuable
Athletes based upon the extraordinary years that each had. They were the
bookends on the Conference and Sectional winning 4 x 100, which set a RHS record
of :49.0, and 4 x 200 relays. Hale, a team captain, stabilized the team the
entire year performing in positions not necessarily of her choosing that needed
to be filled. Smith was a 4 event champion at both Conference and Sectional
adding gold in the 100 and 200 meter dashes to her relay titles. She also set
the Richwoods 100 meter dash record of :11.8 which earned her All-State
recognition by Illinois Prep Top Times.
Senior team captain Delaina Martin was named as the
Kim Field Award winner.
Delaina received the award for her continued effort and improvement throughout
her career. By nearly doubling her distances from her freshman year she became
the Richwoods record holder in both of the throws with marks of 39'
5½" in the shot put and 114' 4" in the discus. Long known as
"Management" she provided great support over the years to her
teammates.
The Adrienne Moos Award was presented to Junior captain
Laura Unes. The
presentation was premised o her goal of "team success" through quiet
leadership and motivation to teammates. Strong leadership, desire and commitment
to her team are defining elements of her character.
Congratulations to Barbara, Alisha, Delaina and Laura from the Knights.
